Stowe Course:
What is the course like?:
With a backdrop of Mount Mansfield and the Stowe countryside what could be prettier? The cours itself is a rural beautiful 8 mile single-loop course starting and finishing just off the Mountain Road in the town of Stowe (the town events field on Weeks Hill Rd.). A rolling course with flat sections that proceeds through beautiful Vermont countryside and takes you through the heart of Stowe. Great views of mountains, fields and country roads.
Course Hills: The course starts on a relatively flat section of Stowe and there are no real hills for up to the first 2.5 miles. At this point you go up a very short steep hill just before mile 3 and the Stowe High School. (New spot for the relay transition zone) From the High School to mile 4.5 is a gradual down hill, but take it easy you will pay for this later. From mile 5 to 7 is rolling with two miles of this on a nice dirt road. From mile 7 to mile 8 it is gradual up hill back into town.
For 2011 the course is the same as the last three years. It will start inside the recreation fields on the dirt road, then take a right onto the normal course. The finish will be on the left hand side - in front of the Golden Eagle Resort, on Rt. 108
The start of the race will be wider than normal and include a cross country type start. .You can wear normal running or racing shoes at the start. The dirt section is about 1/4 mile long and fairly smooth.
Note, this course has been measured and certified by the USATF - course VT10003RF
However, the relay legs are not exactly 3 miles and 5 miles. Relay legs are approximately 2.9 miles and 5.1 miles.
