What distance is this race?
The Maine Coast Half Marathon is 13.1 miles long with a good section of the race running along the Atlantic Ocean along a picture perfect sandy Beach as welll as passing through York Harbor. The course will be certified, accurate and well marked.

ARE WALKERS ALLOWED?
YES! Wallkers are very welcome to our event. All we ask is that you obey the rules of the course and walk no more than two people abreast so that others may pass easily. Walkers will start officially 30 minutes before the runners.

NOTE: if you plan to run any portion of the race at all, please register as a runner.

What is the course like?

Our course starts in a small picturesque New England harbor town, and takes a winding course first past a long sandy beach and then through very rural, rustic roads that follow a scenic Maine Harbor. This is a figure 8 loop and there are scenic views most of the course. From the start to about mile 3 you will experience flat roads to small to medium hills with the Atlantic Ocean on your left. Then the road turns back into historical downtown. You will then pass through a rural section with magestic Oak and Pine forests leading to a one mile section of a well maintained gravel road. This dirt road has very few houses on it, so you will have to be content running by century old stone walls, large hay fields, beaver ponds and mature maple, oak and pine forests. The course then travels on a bridge over York Harbor and back towards a residential section with a few medium hills. Finally the last mile brings you back directly along the Atlantic Oceans and a very flat section along a sandy beach to the finish at the High school. (Course is on roads the entire way and not actually on the beach)

Restroom facilities: For your conveniance, there will be two portapotties on the course, at mile 5.5 and just before mile 10.

WHERE ARE THE WATER STOPS
There will be six water stops, Located approximately at mile 2,4,6,8,10 and 11.5.Also energy drinks will be available at two stations. Mile 4 and mile 10

Custom medals will be awarded to all finishers.

WHERE IS THE START & HOW DO I GET THERE?
The start is on the same road as the High School and very close to parking. It is located 600 yards from the finish, at the High School. There isfree parking at both the start and the finish for early runners. Additional parking aivailable at a free municipal lot 6 tenths of a mile away. A free shuttle will be provided rom the municipal lot parking area.

WHERE CAN WE FIND PARKING ON RACE MORNING?
The parking lot for the High School finish and start are located . Parking is FREE on Sundays.

Note: Late arrivals will be parking in the town municipal lot about 6 tenths to 1 mile from the finish and 1 mile from the start - plan accordingly.

ARE THERE SHOWERS AFTER THE RACE?
There will be a limited number of shower stalls available after the race in the High School.

HOW CAN I DRIVE THE COURSE?
All of the race course is accessable by car before the race begins. Follow the race map for best results.

WHERE ARE THE BEST LOCATIONS TO SEE THE RACE?
Probably the best and only spot is near the start and the finish as you can walk to see the runners several times. A full map will be availble on this site at a later date

WHAT DOES CHIP TIMED MEAN?

YOU MUST WEAR A CHIP TO GET A TIME!
Each walker or runner will receive a small light “Chip” that they place onto their shoe. When you start the race you will travel over a matt that takes a reading from this chip. This records your start and finish time automatically into a computer so we can get results out to you faster. Please remember to return this chip at the end of the race.

NOTE: There is a $35 fee if you fail to return your chip.

One LUCKY GUY - Eric Vermilya of New Haven CT, will be this year's One Lucky Guy.

9/11/07 Registration is still open. . . .

Women: Registration

(Men) On line LOTTERY

Watching the race: Spectators are welcome to come to the start/finish area to cheer on the runners. We
we want to strongly encourage you to park at the Ridge Coastal Elementary
S school on Long Sands Road. This is a nice healthy .6 mile walk to the High School

This is an excellent course to see runners. From the high school you may see the start, then walk to Webber street to the ocean there you can see the runners at mile 2.1, then walk only a quarter mile to the other end of Webber to see them at mile 11.5
then walkk back to see them at the finish. Driving would let you see them in a few more places but we discourage that as with 900 runners on the road you may simply be stuck in traffic.

WILL THE RACE ENTRIES BE CAPPED? (not this year)

For the safety of our race participants, the entry numbers will be capped to control the numbers at the Half Marathon starting lines. We would love to be able to let everyone in, but safety requires that we limit the field. The number of participants for 2007 is capped at 1,500 for the half Marathon

HOW DO I REGISTER?
You can register for all events online on our page, see the registration link. OR, Register by mail using our PDF Entry form and mail it to: Maine Coast Half, C/O LOCO Sports, PO Box 423, Newmarket, NH

WHERE IS THE START & HOW DO I GET THERE?
The start is in front of the High School . It is located about 600 yards from the finish, . There is a good supply of parking at both the start and the finish, but there may need to be extra parking at a free municipal lot 7 tenths of a mile away. A free shuttle will be provided for the municipal lot parking.

Where is the early number pickup? Packet pickup for 2007 is located at the High School Gym More details to come.

WILL THERE BE A BAG CHECK SO THAT I CAN RETRIEVE MY BAG AT THE FINISH?
For the Half Marathon will have a bag check/retrieval. We'll do the best job we can to see that your bag is safely returned to you at the finish line. However, we strongly suggest that you bring nothing breakable or valuable with you to the start of either race. We are not responsible for anything that you check as we have 1500 bags to move in only a short time. Small bags would be appreciated.

WHERE CAN I STAY IN OR NEAR THE RACE ?
There are several wonderful places to stay right in town or along the ocean and surrounding towns, see our lodging page!
