2007 Race:
With picture perfect weather and themost enthusiastic crowd of
women ever assembled the 2007 Maine Coast Half Marathon was launched
on Sunday September 23rd in York Maine And what a day it was.
:) 
Women walkers and runners from all over the country came to celebrate their fitness and the power of Women. Almost 800 women stepped to the line and completed the scenic course. Many were personally coongratulated by none other than Marathon Woman, running pioneer Kathrine Switzer. This is the first year of an event that we hope many people will call thier favorite race for years to come.
Maine Coast Half Marathon Superb
In the 12 years of this column
it has been rare that I have spent more than one week on a particular
subject but 
this will be one of the those occasions. Two weeks ago I previewed
the Maine Coast Half-Marathon, the women's- only race in York,
Maine. I wrote about it, anticipating that the race would be a
special event in Seacoast running history. Now that the race has
come and gone it is my duty to report that the race was nothing
like I expected it to be.
It was 10 times better.
It started the night before the race with a pasta dinner. The guest speaker was Kathrine Switzer, who, in 1967, was the first female to officially finish the Boston Marathon. Since that time Kathrine has been all over the world as an advocate for women's running. At the pasta dinner she told her story of her early running and the decisions that led to her Boston Marathon effort. It was a truly inspirational talk and a perfect setup for what was to follow.
