The LOCO Guy
Mike St. Laurent

Runner since 1969
Marathons: 13 / Races - too many to count
PR: BAA 1982: 2:35:45/ 10K 32:12/ 5M 24:48

Mike started running back in 1969, back when running was not the "popular" sport that it is now. After placing in local high school state meets he went on to lettering in XC at the University of New Hampshire. In 1976, Mike was lucky enough to wear test shoes for a small company, then called Nike. In 1980 he joined Nike and spent several years developing technical running shoes. One most famous, the Nike Pegasus. After Nike, Mike was the running shoe line manager at Saucony where he develpled among others the Shadow. After Saucony he headed up the running shoe line at New Balance.   Mike's racing resume include seven Boston Marathon finishes, races from 1 mile to the marathon and even the 212 mile Reach the Beach Relays and a few runs up Mt. Washington. When he’s not running or going LOCO, Mike has coached High School championship teams as well as Jr. High and Hershey track. Currently he devotes his time to giving back to the local running scene at the high school level and spends time running with his family.

Arlon Chaffee AKA LOCO GUY

Co-founder
Runner since 1992
Marathons: 4
PR 3:29
Tri-Athlete: Olympic & Sprint

Arlon spent 20 years in insurance & risk management consulting (not as interesting as it sounds), the last 8 of which were in Boston – suit & tie bad, running along the Charles River at noon, good. In 2000, he walked (ran?) away from the 9-5 scene to became partner at an executive search firm and devote more time to an angel investment group he helped found. Shortly thereafter, he was drawn into the formative stages of what would become LOCO. Some runners are born, others made – Arlon is clearly in the latter category. He started running in 1992 and ran his first marathon in 1995. A veteran of 5 marathons, hundreds of 5 & 10 K’s, several Reach the Beach Relays and, in 2004, a run up Mt. Washington. While his times are unimpressive, his pacing has allowed for extensive research into the mid-pack psyche – an excellent complement to findings from the rest of the (speedy) LOCO team! When he’s not running or going LOCO, Arlon devotes his time to several local cultural & community development initiatives and, of course, spends time with his family.

Peter Pfitzinger

Co-founder and Advisor
U.S. Olympian - Marathon (1984, 1988)
PR: 2:11:43

Pete began running as a schoolboy in Pittsford, New York. After recording a 9:33 two-mile at the age of 15, he knew that distance running was a pursuit worthy of a lifetime of personal dedication. Thirty years and a hundred thousand miles later, Pete's focus is on helping other runners achieve their goals.

As he rose through the national and international marathoning ranks in the 1980's, Pete began coaching other runners. After competing in two Olympic marathons, Pete returned to college to study exercise physiology so he would better understand the subtleties of how the body adapts to training. In 1984, Pete married Christine Hughes, arguably the more successful runner in the family.

"Pete has been running in the Perfectos since August '04. Pete says, "I love the Perfecto and put over 900 miles on my first pair."

Personal bests:

5K - 14:04; 8K - 22:46; 10K - 28:41; 15K - 43:37; Half-Marathon - 1:03:14; 30K - 1:31:52; Marathon - 2:11:43

Kevin Molloy

Co-Owner: CoolRunning
LOCO Running Australia

Kevin Molloy has been a runner and fitness enthusiast all of his life. In 1988 he and his family moved to the Boston area on a IT related relocation. In 1992 he established a running club (Squannacook River Runners in a small New England town of Groton, MA. At the same time he started a local road race know as the Groton Road Race which under his direction over a ten year period blossomed into a 3000 person 10K, 5K, 2K and tots series of events.

In 1995 out of frustration with the limited resourses availaable for event promotion he decided to establish an online running magazine for that sole purposes of propmoting events using Internet technology. Ten years down the road the coolrunning.com site is one of the most respected in the world of running with over 6 million pages downloaded every month. In 1997 a Coolruning Australia was spun off followed in 1999 by Cool Running New Zealand. Kevin is still active with the Cool Running web site.

In early 2003 he became aware of the development of a new line of running shoes in the USA (Loco) with a product line that was targetted to what runners really wanted and a sales methodology that was grass-roots by nature. He grabbed at the opportunity to be part of a small team that is bringing the product to Australia.
