LOCO Mike: Runner since 1969
Marathons: 13 / Finishes - too many to count

Mike - the LOCO Guy - started running back in 1969, back when running was not the "popular" sport that it is now. After placing in local high school state meets I went on to lettering in XC at the University of New Hampshire. In 1976. I was lucky enough to wear test shoes for a small company based in Exeter NH called Nike. In 1980 I joined Nike and spent several years developing technical running shoes for Nike, then New Saucony and New Balance. Running has always been my favorite sport, but I now also enjoy biking and kayaking and hiking.  My racing resume include seven Boston Marathon finishes, races from 1 mile to the marathon and even the 212 mile Reach the Beach Relays and a few runs up Mt. Washington. When he’s not running or going LOCO, Mike has coached High School championship teams as well as Jr. High and Hershey track. Currently he devotes his time to giving back to the local running scene at the high school level and spends time running with his family - who are now all faster than him

Arlon Chaffee AKA LOCO GUY

Co-founder
Runner since 1992
Races: Too many too count
Mt. Washington Hill Climb: 7 times and counting
Marathons: 7
PR 3:29
Avid Cyclist

Arlon spent 20 years in insurance & risk management consulting (not as interesting as it sounds), the last 8 of which were in Boston – suit & tie bad, running along the Charles River at noon, good. In 2000, he walked (ran?) away from the 9-5 scene to became partner at an executive search firm in Portsmouth, NH, while devoting more time to an angel investment group he helped found. In 2009 he left the search business to become a seeker. In 2002 he was drawn into the formative stages of what would become LOCO Sports, originally a running shoe company , now one of New England's premiere operators of distance running events. Some runners are born, others made – Arlon is clearly in the latter category. He started running in 1992 and ran his first marathon in 1995. A veteran of 7 marathons, hundreds of 5 & 10 K’s, several Reach the Beach Relays and, starting in in 2004, annual runs (OK, lots of walking too!) up Mt. Washington. While his times aren't to impressive, his pacing has allowed for extensive research into the mid-pack psyche – an excellent complement to findings from the rest of the (speedy) LOCO team! When he’s not running or going LOCO, Arlon might be found teaching business courses at UNH or spending time on local cultural & community development initiatives. His daughters now grown, he feathers the empty nest in Newmarket, NH with his current favorite wife.

Linda spent many years coaching cross-country and track at the local schools, but now enjoys watching her own kids, Kevin and Robyn run  races.
